An urge to test his team in different situations before the semi-final prompted Kolkata Knight Riders' captain Gautam Gambhir to bat first after winning the toss against Dolphins in Hyderabad. Knight Riders, who had batted second in all three league games so far, have already qualified for the semi-final.

Gambhir, leading a T20 team for the 100th time, said Knight Riders were unchanged from their last game and added that they wanted to challenge the players by shuffling their positions and putting pressure on them.

Dolphins, who have lost all three league games so far, made one change to their side, recalling fast bowler Craig Alexander in place of Keshav Maharaj.
